About Fish Welfare Initiative (FWI)
Fish Welfare Initiative is an animal welfare organization that focuses on one of the most numerous and neglected groups of farmed animals: fishes.
We work to improve fish welfare by developing and implementing scalable, cost-effective, and evidence-based interventions. Our main program, the Alliance for Responsible Aquaculture (ARA), collaborates with fish farmers in Andhra Pradesh, India, to improve water quality and reduce stocking densities. Alongside this, our Research & Development (R&D) department explores new interventions to identify the most effective ways to help fishes.
Currently, our R&D department is running studies to explore the effectiveness of feed fortification to enhance fish welfare. Early results are promising and we plan to launch a pilot program in October 2026. This pilot will require engaging with farmers, feed mills, and other relevant stakeholders—some of whom we have not engaged before.
You can learn more about our work on our blog and website.
How You Will Make a Difference
In this role, you will be responsible for building and maintaining key relationships with FWI’s feed industry stakeholders to drive forward our fortified feed intervention.
The feed fortification intervention is a new program idea, and we have yet to build the pilot protocol and infrastructure to run a pilot. You will actively participate in this process by bringing your existing network with mills and farmers in Andhra Pradesh, which will be pivotal in helping us get this program off the ground.
Key Responsibilities
The Sales and Marketing Manager will be responsible for the following:
1 - Feed Mill Relationship
A. Establishment: Identify and build strong relationships with feed mills that will produce the feed required for our fortified feed program. Set up MoUs and get them signed.
B. Maintenance: Over time, develop strong trust with feed mill representatives to maintain relationships. Ensure mills comply with production requirements and oversee quality checks.
C. Strategic production guidance: Based on production and consumption volumes, determine the required number of mills to be engaged and engage new mills as necessary.
D. Quality assurance: Ensure mills comply with production requirements and oversee quality checks.
2 - Feed Marketing
A. Strategic guidance: In partnership with other team members, develop marketing strategies to ensure sufficient farmer uptake of our fortified feed.
B. Strategy implementation: Lead marketing projects and develop relevant materials. This may include organizing events, recruiting model farms, and similar.
C. Event Representation: Attend industry fairs and similar events to advertise our fortified feed formulation and connect with relevant stakeholders.
3 - Feed Distribution
A. Trader/Dealer relationships: Build, maintain, and expand relationships with traders and dealers who could act as feed distributors.
B. Exploration of other distribution channels: The price increase caused by trader/dealer involvement may inhibit uptake of our fortified feed. Alternative distribution channels may be more promising to keep costs low. You are responsible for coming up with these, implementing them, and evaluating their cost-effectiveness.
C. Monitoring of existing channels: Ensure that the farmers who are buying our feed receive it within the agreed-upon timeframe. Own FWI’s feed delivery efforts and facilitate smooth operations.
4 - Farmer Relationships
A. Building and Maintenance: Become embedded in the farming community and build a strong network of farmers to get them interested in purchasing fortified feed. Tend to existing farmer relationships while building new relationships.
B. Assistance on Incentive Management: Assist other team members responsible for developing and executing incentive structures (e.g., water quality monitoring visits), as needed.
C. Scoping: Assist with scoping of new regions and farmer communities, as needed.

No, we unfortunately don’t accept freshers for this position. We require at least 2 years of experience in a feed sales or market development role.
