Looking to help reduce the suffering of billions of fish? Excited to work at a new startup in an extremely neglected area? Join our team!

Fish Welfare Initiative (FWI) is amongst the first organizations focused exclusively on reducing the suffering and improving the welfare of fish. We are a recent startup, incubated by Charity Entrepreneurship and aligned with the ideas of Effective Altruism. Further information on our approach can be found in our blog. To get to know our team, see our about page.

Internship Opportunities

  • Research Internship – Help us do impactful research to shape our interventions.

  • Web Design Internship – Boost the aesthetics and usability of this very website.

  • Writing Internship – Write posts on our blog on everything from welfare to sustainability.

If you're interested in any of these roles, shoot us an email telling us why you think you can have a strong impact for fish by working with our team in this capacity.

Other Ways You Can Help

  • Guest-write research or blog posts – Have a topic related to fish welfare you want to research? Send us an email or a pitch, and we may publish it on our website. We're particularly interested in research regarding the welfare requirements of various neglected species (e.g. carp, tilapia) and regarding farming conditions in less well-researched areas (e.g. South and Southeast Asia, South America, Africa).

  • Connect us with your contacts – Know someone doing cool work on aquaculture, or at the intersection of sustainability, food safety, labor conditions, and animal welfare? We'd love to be in touch.
