Fish Welfare Officer 

In alignment with our mission to improve the lives of billions of farmed fish, Fish Welfare Initiative is looking for a Fish Welfare Officer to help us in implementing aquaculture research projects . For this role, we’re looking for a graduate in Fisheries Sciences, ideally with some experience with aquaculture farmers or animal advocacy.

Note: We are only accepting Telugu-speaking Indian nationals. This position is located in Andhra Pradesh, India.

Who We Are 

Fish Welfare Initiative (FWI) works to reduce the suffering of farmed fishes, and is amongst the first organizations in this growing space. Thus far, our efforts have mainly focused on aquaculture in India, where in the past 3 years we have built a team of about 20 people and improved the lives of over 1 million fishes.

Who We Are

We collaborate with corporations, governments, and farmers to improve animal welfare standards in aquaculture. We believe that this is the right thing for farmers, fishes, and consumers. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collecting water-quality data from the study farms.

  • Ensuring high-quality data collection and data entry.

  • Building strong relationships with local farmers/institutions for smooth functioning of projects.

  • Helping the Program Coordinator & Research team in implementing research projects.

  • Becoming well-trained in handling and maintaining our water-quality testing equipment.

  • Any other duties or responsibilities assigned from time to time by your supervisor.

Qualifications and Education

Required Criteria

You must meet all of these in order to be eligible for this position:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Fisheries, Zoology, Agriculture, or other sciences.

  • Excited to work extensively in the field at aquaculture facilities.

  • Fluent in oral and written English and Telugu.


Ideal Criteria

  • Experience in global development, particularly agricultural initiatives.

  • Experience with aquaculture or animal protection.

  • Experience working with Indian state governments.

The Fine Print

  • Location: West Godavari and Nellore Districts, Andhra Pradesh, India.

  • Position Status: Consultant.

  • Benefits: Health insurance, flexible hours, startup atmosphere.

  • Start Date: ASAP, with some flexibility.

  • Pay: INR 35000–40000 per month, based on need and experience.
