Agricultural Economist

In alignment with our mission to improve the lives of billions of farmed fish, Fish Welfare Initiative is looking for an agro-economist to evaluate the economic implications of shifting aquaculture towards higher welfare farming practices.

  • Location: Remote, preferred in India

Who We Are 

Fish Welfare Initiative (FWI) is a startup organization whose mission is to improve the welfare of fish as much as possible. We focus specifically on farmed fish, or fish raised in aquaculture.

We collaborate with corporations, governments and producers to improve animal welfare standards in aquaculture. We believe that this is the right thing for fish, farmers and consumers.

How You Will Make a Difference

We are interested predominantly in two projects:

  • Investigating the price elasticity of fingerlings/yearlings

  • Modelling farmer profits under multiple styles of aquaculture (based on intensiveness and inputs)

 

We are looking for applicants who can fulfil one or both of these. There is potential for more projects in the future.

Qualifications

Required

  • Written and verbal fluency in English

  • Exceptional communication skills

  • Masters or higher in agricultural economics, econometrics, or a related field

  • Experience with agriculture in lower and middle-income countries

 

Preferred

  • Written and verbal fluency in Telugu

  • Previous experience in animal advocacy or aquaculture

  • Experience working with sustainable production systems in India

  • Living in Andhra Pradesh
